Legal information
Terms of Use
Version dated 17 October 2026 (update: trial month, referral codes), effective from that date
The essentials
- Classy helps you understand your course materials using artificial intelligence. Its explanations may contain errors: check them against your course materials and with your teacher.
- Your course materials remain yours. We use them only to provide you with the service, never to train AI or to resell them.
- Only upload documents you have the right to use, and only record a lesson or lecture with the speaker's consent.
- You can delete a set of course materials or your entire account at any time from within the application.
- If you are under 15, you need a parent's consent to create your account; for a paid subscription, a parent's consent is required if you are a minor.
1. Purpose and acceptance
These Terms of Use (‘Terms’) set out the rules for accessing and using the classy.college website and the Classy application, published by the publisher identified in the legal notice (‘we’). They apply to anyone who uses Classy (‘you’, ‘the user’).
By creating an account, you accept the Terms of Use by ticking the box provided. Simply browsing the website and the sample course, without an account, is also subject to the Terms of Use. Paid subscriptions are additionally governed by the Terms and Conditions of Sale, which take precedence in the event of any conflict relating to payment.
2. The service
Classy is a tool to help secondary-school and university students understand their course material and revise. Using a document you upload (PDF, PowerPoint, Word, text, photos of notes or an audio recording of a lesson or lecture), artificial intelligence produces, among other things: a summary video with a synthesised voice, a detailed explanation by topic, quizzes and exercises with answers, mock exams, a mind map, a revision sheet, a podcast, a revision timetable and an assistant that answers your questions about the course material.
Classy is neither an educational institution nor a tutoring service provided by people: it does not replace your teachers, textbooks or independent study, and does not guarantee any result in a test or exam.
3. Account
Using the analysis features requires an account, created with a username, an email address and a password. Classy does not ask for your name. You sign in with your username or email address; a confirmation code is sent to your email address when you register. Each email address can only be used for one account.
- Your account is personal to you. You must keep your password secret and let us know immediately if you think someone else has used it.
- Choose a username that does not make you easy to identify (avoid your full name) and does not infringe anyone's rights: it is visible to members of your group and participants in challenges you join.
- Your email address lets you reset a forgotten password (“Forgot password” on the sign-in screen). Keep it up to date in “My account”. Accounts created before this version can add an email address there.
- You must not create multiple accounts to get around the limits of the free plan.
Users under 18
Classy is open to users under 18. If you are under 15, you may only create an account with the consent of a parent (or your legal representative), after reading the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy together: when registering, you indicate that you are under 15 and confirm that you have this consent. A parent may ask us to delete their child's account at any time through “Help and contact”. A minor taking out a paid subscription requires prior consent from their legal representative, who is deemed to have given consent when payment is made using their payment method.
4. Plans and usage limits
Every new account receives a one-month trial giving access to all Pro plan features (12 courses analysed per month), with no payment method required. At the end of the trial, the account switches to the Free plan: previously analysed courses remain available to view (video, pages, quizzes, revision), and the course assistant remains usable up to a usage limit set per account; analysing new courses, mock exams, additional exercises, marking open-ended questions, podcasts, analysing audio recordings, likely exam questions and flashcard export then require a paid Pro, Max or Group plan, as described in the Terms and Conditions of Sale. One trial per person only.
Number of analyses. Pro, Group (for each of its accounts) and the trial: 12 courses analysed per month. Max: 30 courses analysed per month, including 1 in-depth analysis. Months begin on the 1st at 0:00 (Paris time).
Use of artificial intelligence. Each plan includes an artificial intelligence usage allowance over a rolling 30-day period, across all features (analyses, assistant, exercises, marking, podcasts…). The Max plan includes three times the Pro allowance; the Group allowance is shared between its accounts. Once this allowance is reached, features that use artificial intelligence pause and gradually become available again as the days pass; courses, quizzes, previously created mock exams and revision remain accessible. Your usage is shown in ‘My account’.
To protect the service, technical limits apply to all plans (for example, 10 mock exams per day, a maximum file size of 50 MB, recordings of 25 MB, 20 photos per course). Failed analyses do not count towards your allowance. We may change the limits of the free plan; paid plan limits cannot be reduced during a period already paid for.
5. Your content
You retain ownership
The documents, photos, recordings, past papers, questions and answers you upload or write (“your content”) remain your property or that of their authors. You grant us only a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence, for as long as they are retained, to store them, reproduce them and transmit them to our technical service providers solely to provide you with the service (analysis, generation of explanations, quizzes, speech, marking). This licence ends as soon as you delete the content or your account.
We do not use your content to train artificial intelligence models, publish it or sell it. Our AI providers are contractually committed not to use it to train their models (see the Privacy Policy).
Your commitments
- You may only upload content you have the right to use: your own notes, materials your teacher or institution has given you for your personal study, and royalty-free documents. Classy is a private study tool: you must not use it to distribute someone else's course material.
- An oral lesson or lecture is a protected work, and a voice is personal data: only record a lesson or lecture with the teacher's permission and in accordance with your institution's rules.
- Avoid uploading personal data about other people (other students' work, contact details, health information…). If a document contains such data, you are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use it.
- You must not upload any unlawful content: content that infringes intellectual property rights, is hateful or violent, contains sexual material involving minors, infringes other people's privacy or reputation, or contains malicious software.
6. AI-generated content
In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 on artificial intelligence, we inform you that explanations, videos, voices, quizzes, marking, mock exams, podcasts and assistant responses are generated automatically by artificial intelligence systems (currently Anthropic's Claude models for text and Google's Gemini for speech and audio transcription). The voices in videos and podcasts are synthesised voices: they are not real people.
- The AI draws on your course material and cites its pages, but it can make mistakes, misread a passage, oversimplify or invent information. Always check against your course material, textbook or with your teacher, especially before an exam.
- Marks, marking schemes and “estimated marks” are for guidance only: they do not determine how your teacher will assess your work.
- Classy helps you learn; it is not designed to do your homework for you. You remain responsible for following your institution's rules (independent work, exams, AI use).
- You are free to use content generated from your course material for your studies. If you spot an error, use the “Report an error” button: it helps us improve Classy.
No decision producing legal effects concerning you is made solely on the basis of this automated processing.
7. Challenges between friends, Group plan and referrals
When you create a challenge, the questions from your chosen quiz, your username and the leaderboard (usernames, scores, times) are visible to anyone who is signed in and has the challenge code. Only share the code with people you choose.
Under the Group plan, the subscription holder adds or removes members using their usernames. Each member can see the usernames of the other group members; everyone's courses remain private.
Referrals
From ‘My account’, you can create referral codes (up to 5 unused codes at a time). Each code can only be used once: create a different code for each friend. Your friend enters the code when signing up, or later in ‘My account’ before their first subscription: they get 20 % off their subscription. When they pay for their first subscription, you receive 50 % off for 3 months on yours (details in the Terms of Sale, Article 2). Each account can only use one code. Referrals between accounts belonging to the same person, or obtained in bulk or by automated means, do not qualify for any benefits and may lead to the suspension of the accounts concerned. Discounts are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged; we may change or discontinue the referral scheme without affecting discounts already earned.
8. Rules of use
The following are prohibited:
- to circumvent or attempt to circumvent usage limits, security measures or payment (creating multiple accounts, automation, sharing a Pro account outside the Group plan…);
- extracting content in bulk, querying the service using bots or using Classy to develop a competing service;
- inserting instructions into a document intended to manipulate the AI (‘prompt injection’) or attempting to make it produce unlawful or dangerous content;
- disrupting the operation of the service, introducing malicious code into it or accessing other users’ data;
- using Classy for illegal purposes, unauthorised commercial purposes or purposes contrary to these Terms of Use.
9. Classy’s intellectual property
Classy (software, design, text, brand, sample courses and sounds) is protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the app for your private use for as long as you use the service. You may install the app on your devices.
10. Reporting illegal content and moderation
Under Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 on digital services, anyone may report content they believe to be illegal (for example, a username or a challenge) by writing to contact@classy.college, providing: the specific reasons for the report, the exact location of the content (challenge code, username, etc.), their name and email address (except for child sexual abuse material), and a statement of good faith.
We handle reports diligently and objectively. If we remove content or restrict an account, we inform the user concerned of the reasons for the decision and the available avenues of redress (a complaint to the same address, mediation or court proceedings). Manifestly illegal content may be removed without prior notice and, where required by law, reported to the authorities.
11. Availability and changes
We do our best to keep Classy accessible at all times, but access may be interrupted for maintenance, updates, a service provider outage or force majeure. We may change the service’s features; for subscribers, a change cannot remove an essential feature of the paid plan unless they can cancel and receive a pro rata refund (see the Terms of Sale).
Remember to keep a copy of your original documents: Classy is not a backup service.
12. Liability
We are responsible for the proper performance of the service under the conditions laid down by law. We cannot be held liable for misuse of the service, failure to comply with the Terms of Use, acts of a third party or force majeure. Given the nature of AI-generated content (Article 6), we do not guarantee its accuracy or suitability for any particular examination.
Nothing in the Terms of Use limits your statutory rights as a consumer, or our liability for gross negligence, intentional misconduct or personal injury.
13. Account suspension and closure
You can delete your account at any time from ‘My account’ > ‘Delete my account’: your courses, files, results and statistics will then be erased, and any subscription you have will be stopped.
In the event of a serious or repeated breach of the Terms of Use, we may suspend or close your account after warning you where possible. We will provide reasons for the decision, which you may challenge by writing to contact@classy.college. For subscribers, account closure due to a breach does not entitle you to a refund for the current period, unless otherwise required by law.
14. Personal data and cookies
The processing of your personal data is described in the privacy policy, and the use of cookies and trackers in the cookie policy.
15. Changes to the Terms of Use
We may amend the Terms of Use, particularly to reflect changes to the service or the law. The current version is always available on this page, together with its date. If there is a significant change, you will be notified in the app at least 30 days in advance; if you disagree, you can delete your account (and cancel your subscription) before it takes effect.
16. Governing law and disputes
The Terms of Use are governed by French law. If you encounter a problem, contact us first: most issues can be resolved this way. You can then use the consumer mediator listed in the legal notice free of charge. If no agreement is reached, the dispute falls within the jurisdiction of the competent courts under the rules of the French Code of Civil Procedure; if you are a consumer, you may bring proceedings before the court for the place where you were living when the contract was concluded or when the event giving rise to the damage occurred.
